About

Born in the city of Nantes in France, Arthur Looij began playing music from the age of 6 with the flute and singing in a choir. In 2009, he moved to the Netherlands and started playing bass. He was so into it that he decided to make it his career. After a successful audition in 2011 at the Art & Entertainment College in Amsterdam (renamed PACT+), he started studying and kickstarting his music career as a bass player. There, he learned the fine lines of being a musician: from playing and recording with a band, to songwriting and producing. There, he also built a steady network of people whom he still works with to this day! After 3 years at the Art & Entertainment College, Arthur’s thirst for knowledge was insatiable and he decided to audition for the Conservatory to get a Bachelor degree. His choice went to the Conservatory in Haarlem. There, Arthur expanded his knowledge and his network even more to become an all-round performing musician, songwriter, as well as a music teacher.

As of 2024, Arthur is working with multiple artists and bands. He is also active as a teacher in bass and guitar. His current main projects are Dress Up Town (Japanese Anime Rock band), Coverband Legend (Top 40 music) and Hilin (Soul/blues). He is also active as a session bass player for both live and studio work. As session musician, Arthur worked with artists like Meta & The Cornerstones (Reggae), Verse Ital (Reggae), Douwe Bob, Amsterdam Faya All-Stars and he is featured in multiple recordings like the songs of singer/songwriter KY. and more recently LUCIA’s new EP “I Know Better”.

As a bass player. Arthur is at home playing a lot of different musical genres. From Soul, Funk to progressive rock and Japanese Rock, Arthur has been taught to be as versatile as possible on his instrument. But when it comes to what he prefers to play, Arthur is the most at home playing Jazz-Funk and Jazz-Fusion. His mentality on his instrument is “groove comes first”. Arthur’s playing can be described as groovy, funky with a strong sense of timing. Arthur is also a no-nonsense player. He will play what the song needs and come up with the best bass line to support each instrument in the band.
